Cefn Sidan Wrecks

As we look North across the Burry Estuary it is difficult to believe that it was once full of sailing traffic from the industrial centres on the North coast of the estuary to destinations across the world. An interesting insight into this trade can be found in the list of shipwrecks put together by David Hughes which can be found on the blog of Pembrey and Burry Port Heritage.

The list starts in 1668 with the Peter registered in Hamburg which was lost near Llanelli with a cargo of Tobacco and Sugar and ends in 1996 with an unnamed yacht on a trip from Morocco with £800,000 worth of Cannabis Resin. The boats lost in the Broughton Bay disaster are listed separately.
